CAA Release Details Of Registration Scheme

The CAA have finally announced the details of the UAV registration scheme that becomes compulsory in November 2019.

The basics are as follows:

All remote pilots must take an online safety test.
Registration applies to all UAVs between 250g and 20kg.
Registration is for one year currently.

The fee for this is proposed to be £16.50 per annum. The proposal is that it will eventually be three yearly.

Currently in the proposal, there is no differentiation between PfCO holders and hobbyists. We feel that your PfCO and associated fee should be enough to be automatically included in the registration scheme without needing to pay an additional fee.

You can read the proposal here

We think registration is a good thing but feel that only hobbyists should need to take this step as all PfCO holders already are registered with the CAA.

They have opened a consultation on the proposal and we strongly recommend all PfCO holders, put forward their opinions on the system and fees.

The consultation can be found and completed here.
